Airplane Warfare
Airplanes amongst all the other types of weapons weren't as popular and were a new thing to many people. However, the slow development and first breath into the world caused a great reaction and a new breed of fighting.
Taking a look at the German side we can see that air combat was a big but new thing for the Germans. The Zeppelin blimp was the first ship to fly in the air that would be used for dropping bombs onto the enemy. (Dugdale-Pointon) On May 31st, 1915 Germany launched its first attack from the blimp against Britain, this was considered to be a crucial point in fighting because not only soldiers were targeted but big landmarks were targeted as well. Targeting bigger areas wasn't seen very often up in till this point, which is why it was considered a turning point in the way wars were fought.
"In 1914-18 a boundary was crossed - the boundary between war on fixed sights and units, cities, armed camps, strongpoints, depots and war on entire populations." Jay Winter and Blaine Baggett (Stewart)

America also had a new flying machine that was able to cause damage from the air. The Martin MB-1 Bomber, although not many were used, was an American built bomber used during World War I. This special designed aircraft was made for heavy bombing. (Martin) Despite only a handful actually being used, America later on used a different model called the Martin MB-2 used for mid-air combat. The technology of the airplane could be considered a revolution because World War I really set the standard for modern weapons. At the time people didn't really think fighting in the air would be used very much, but if we look now we can really see the full potential they had at the time.
