So why should we care?
Why do we care about World War I? Well, World War I shaped history as a world and not just America.
The Treaty of Versailles was created after the war was over. At the time the treaty seemed like a good thing, and it was. It lashed out against the Germans blaming them for causing the war. The agreement took a lot of Germany's land which by World War II set a base for the rise of a fascist leader, Adolf Hitler. However, during the time it was created it attempted to create a treaty between the Germans and the allied nations. (Trueman, Chris. "The Treaty of Versailles) George Clemenceau of France, David Lloyd George of Britain, and Woodrow Wilson of America all felt that Germany deserved to be punished for the actions they committed. Woodrow Wilson also saw how much damage we as a nation caused during the war. He believed that we should pull away from europe again to allow Europe to rebuild itself and become stronger.
Along with the Treaty of Versailles the League of Nations was formed. Its intentions were to make it so that war would never happen again. Although, we know this didn't come true from the wars to follow, but at the time World War I was called the War to End All Wars. You can see why it was called that. The president of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, was disgusted and disturbed by how much damage a supposedly peaceful nation could cause. (Trueman, Chris. "League of Nations.") Our nation after the war started to transform into a nation that would maintain peace through out the world. This is defiantly shown in the wars to follow. World War I shaped America into the nation it is today.
